Why Clinical Pilates?

At Happy Place Pilates, Clinical Pilates is the science of Exercise Physiology combined with the art of the Pilates Method. Clinical Pilates is a fully integrated exercise practice that taps into the mind-body connection. A few short weeks after commencing regular Clinical Pilates practice you will feel yourself moving better, holding your alignment and posture for longer and you will even be able to breathe deeper and access the calming properties of the breath, relieving stress and tension. Clinical Pilates practice is a safe and effective exercise intervention for a diverse range of injuries and conditions making it ideal for pre-hab and re-hab. Clinical Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and results in strong, flexible, well balanced bodies and minds.

Why Equipment Based Clinical Pilates?

The use of Pilates equipment opens up endless movement options and modifications, making it suitable for everyone. The spring-loaded equipment is supportive yet challenging, ideal for injury and post-natal recovery as well as building strong, flexible well balanced bodies. Pilates equipment keeps you up off the floor and allows you to practice in a variety of different postures.

What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)?

AEPs are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities. Pathology domains covered by the services of AEPs include cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological, musculoskeletal, cancers, kidney, respiratory / pulmonary and mental health, and any other conditions for which there is evidence that exercise can improve the client’s clinical status.

Exercise & Sports Science Australia is the peak professional body and sole accrediting authority for Accredited Exercise Physiologists. ESSA is also the accrediting body for Accredited Exercise Scientists, Accredited Sports Scientists and Accredited High Performance Managers.

Getting started is easy, simply book in your Initial Assessment. You can do this by calling 0426 950 020 or send us a message (link to message here). Tell us a bit about yourself and let us know your availability. We will get back to you with the available appointment days and times.

What should I expect from the Initial Assessment?

The Initial Assessment is a session that is all about getting to know you, so that we can design the best possible program to meet your needs and goals! We have a really good chat and then we get into some movement. It’s a good idea to wear clothes you are able to move comfortably in. The initial assessment includes:

  • Goal setting
  • Exercise pre-screen
  • Collection of relevant health information, including review of any imaging reports
  • Physical assessment (blood pressure, posture, range of motion, movement patterns…)
  • Introduction to basic Pilates principles (breathing, alignment and stabilising techniques)
  • Relevant education on exercise and injury/medical condition
  • Individual program design including home exercise program if indicated
  • Your personal Management Plan – that we write together
What should I bring along to my first session?
  • Any relevant documents that you would like reviewed
  • Clean towel
  • Clean socks
  • Jumper if you get cold (windows open for good ventilation)
  • Some clear ideas on what you’d like to achieve
